The Life Health and Development Society (LHD) Scoop Training School was started in year 2000 after the Marikana Massacre, when the community decided that they need to take care of its own and the youth. The school was one of several projects born out of the struggle where we would train people and send them back into their communities to empower and grow them.
The school started with 10 learners in a small cramped house where we used chairs and tables as our desks and the floor as our classroom. The school is still based in Marikana, but we have grown to where we have a permanent administration building, three classrooms, a computer lab and a dining room.
